M.I.A.

One of the greatest artists of our time, the beautiful and brilliant M.I.A. is back in action we are thankful to say, from her new film, to new material, and a tour.

Jacob Banks (Interscope Records) has released his new sophomore album. The Nigerian-born Brit introduces Village with lead single “Be Good To Me” ft Seinabo Sey. Produced by xSDTRK (Usher, Jennifer Lopez) and Laleh Pourkarim (Ellie Goulding),

Village is Jacob’s first full-length album, following his self-released The Monologue EP, The Paradox EP, and his Interscope Records debut The Boy Who Cried Freedom. Working alongside renowned producers including Paul Epworth (Adele, James Bay, FKA twigs) and Malay (Frank Ocean, Sam Smith, Lorde),  Jacob states, “Village is about celebrating the things that make us who we are, the good, the bad, and the questionable.”

Jacob recently made his U.S. television debut on Late Night with Seth Meyers performing critically-acclaimed single “Unknown (To You),” which has amassed over 12 million views. This summer, Jacob’s track “In the Name of Love” was featured as the theme song for The Equalizer 2 starring Denzel Washington.

Having supported artists including Alicia Keys on tour among others, Jacob has gone on to play sold-out headlining tours and major festivals around the world.  Earlier this year, he made his Coachella debut and performed at Sasquatch, BottleRock, and Shaky Knees, Afropunk and North Coast Music Festival, in addition to a series of international dates. Jacob has previously played major festivals such as Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Firefly and The Meadows, among others.

Hollywood Sentinel states, “Jacob Banks is a dynamic, vibrant new artist whose daring and unique songs soar with passion, life, and originality. His sound harkens back to a dark age of smoky blues, slavery and chain gangs, mixed with a perfect twist of modern pop beauty, breakbeat, and a ray of hope.  Brilliant work, and a spectacular voice.  “Unknown (to You)” below is outstanding.”

Lana Del Rey just dropped a new single and video this week, which is beautifully great, below:

Music Industry

subnormal urges our music industry clients to use Ticketfly, which we have good experience with, rather than a shorter named ticketing company which we have had bad experience with, who spams fans, and requests annoying downloads, among more.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be playing September 29th at the Ohana Festival at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, CA. Unfortunately, they will not be headlining, which appears to instead be headed by Eddie Vedder.  Johnny Marr will join them on stage, among others.

Ex-Cult will be hitting The Echo on October 9th.

PIG and KVC (Kevorkian Death Cycle) will be playing at Union On October 10th.

GOBLIN’s own Claudio Simonetti will be performing the legendary Dario Argento horror classic  ‘Suspuria’ score at Union on November 8th.  We hear Ogre from Skinny Puppy (now also on tour) is a big fan.

Grimes

The genius of Grimes, found in literally every one of her songs, is something we can love any day.  The fashion world was shocked when she brought her date, billionaire Elon Musk to the Met Ball. We weren’t that surprised. Like Elon, Grimes is out of this world.

Billie Eilish has dropped new material on the music industry and just skyrocketed; justifiably so. Her work is outstanding, and below is one of our favorites.

We don’t get tired of this song which is just a masterpiece by Wolf Alice, and the video just kind of makes you want to fall in love and ride the subway.

Ronnie rocked it with Escape the Fate until he got in some trouble and got replaced in that band. He’s back with Falling in Reverse and killing it better than ever before. With outstanding vocals, excellent songwriting, and a rocking band, we wish him the very best of continued success, and a very special shout out to Epitaph.

Amber Town from Italy jams here with Elektra on vocals. An exciting band we definitely want to hear more of.

Pussy Riot states that, “Our friend, brother, comrade Petr Verzilov is in reanimation. His life is in danger. We think that he was poisoned.”  We wish Petr a quick and speedy recovery to good health.

One of our favorites, will be performing at the El Rey next week September 18th. A not to miss show.

MØ Rocks the World

One of the greatest new artists of our time; MØ reportedly went from listening to pop music including The Spice Girls, who she later brilliantly covered, to punk rock.

Reportedly heavily into the punk scene as a teenager, her early influences are said to include none other than Black Flag, Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Yeah Yeah Yeah’s, and Sonic Youth.  Reportedly citing Kim Gordon as a role model  (source: Wikipedia),  it is no surprise to us  how cool MØ’s musical tastes, history, and musical education are, when listening to her music; and simply falling in love with it.

And yet, MØ is like none of these artists who influenced her, or like anyone of her time.  Brilliantly unique and creative, the range and quality of MØ’s voice alone would be commendable.  Add to that however her ever-present cool style, charisma, and personality in her videos and interviews, and you have a musical star.  Add songwriting, musical collaborations, and instrumentation that is wholly brilliant and groundbreaking,  with some of the biggest producers in the world, and you have exactly what MØ is; legendary.

Her passionate, beautiful song “Slow Love” is performed by her live, here below;

Fueling a passionate, and heartfelt vocal delivery in each of her songs, with a beautiful warmth and range, and mixing genres from new wave, techno, pop, and more,  MØ defines the so called “experimental pop” genre that has swept the underground and mainstream alike.  From other experimental pop artists including; Lorde, Elliphant, Grimes, Tove Lo, Kimbra, and a small handful of others, MØ has emerged as truly one of the greatest new singers and musical stars of our time.

Debuting her solo career after a number of experimental projects, her debut  album “No Mythologies to Follow” has resulted in a myriad of outstanding works.

With her signature “holler” in many of her songs, a lovely and unique voice, and simply brilliant songs, to working with top DJ producers including Major Lazer. Diplo, and more, MØ has delivered one brilliant and classic cut after another.

I had the great pleasure to see MØ this year in L.A. (Pamona, California to be exact), and she was nothing less than extraordinary. Herein below, is the latest great new single by MØ with Diplo, “Sun In Our Eyes. ”

MØ states:️ “Sun In Our Eyes; This song is the lead single off my new album Forever Neverland! OMFFFFFFG I CAN’T BELIEVE I’M F I N A L L Y ANNOUNCING MY ALBUM!!! – coming this October 19th!!  Thank you, all of you, for being super supportive and patient with me throughout the years – this album means a lot to me and has been LONG under the way + it’s been a long journey & learning curve for me in a lot of ways so I’m just so so grateful and happy that I can finally announce that it’s comming out and that I CAN’T WAIT to share it with you!! Excited for a new chapter. I’ve been dreaming about this forever

I love u, thank u for waiting.”

MØ will be back in the L.A. area on August 5th, 2018, in Fontana, California for the Hard Summer festival.

MØ’s video “Lean On” with Major Lazer is reportedly YouTube’s 9th most viewed video of all time, having had over 2 and a quarter billion views; currently at 2,354,860,507.

Her great video and song “Don’t Wanna Dance” follows here below;
