Presidential Pardons

This month,  273 individuals learned that the President has given them a second chance. With the recent 209 grants of commutation, the President has now commuted the sentences of 1,385 individuals – the most grants of commutation issued by any President in this nation’s history.  President Obama’s 1,385 commutation grants – which includes 504 life sentences – is also more than the total number of commutations issued by the past 12 presidents combined.

January 2017

17th, Tuesday: It was announced that President Obama has commuted the sentence of Chelsea Elizabeth Manning.

18th, Wednesday, further reports will be given regarding Chelsea’s commutation, who is now reportedly set to be released early this spring. Many hope for similar treatment of Assange and others.  Wikileaks Julian Assange formerly offered to turn himself over to the U.S. should Obama pardon Manning, which he Obama has now done.

19th, Thursday: President Obama will attend meetings at the White House.

Transition of Power

20th, Friday:  On Friday morning, President Obama and the First Lady will welcome President-elect Trump and Melania Trump to the White House for tea and a small reception.  Then, per custom, President Obama and President-elect Trump will motorcade up to the United States Capitol together.

Anti-Trump supporters will reportedly be attempting to disrupt events. Massive security will be out in full swing.

The President and First Lady will attend the inaugural swearing-in and inaugural address of President-elect Trump, and then depart the United States Capitol via helicopter, as other Presidents have done in recent years.

At that point, President Obama and the First Lady will proceed to Joint Base Andrews, where he will deliver remarks to a group of staff that will be gathered there to bid farewell.  And then he and Mrs. Obama will depart Joint Base Andrews on their last flight aboard the presidential aircraft to a destination to be announced.

28th: Chinese New Year
