Emerging pop sensation Carissa Summer Rose is making waves this summer with her latest single, “Living In the Moment.” The 23-year-old singer-songwriter’s new track, produced by industry veteran Dan Richards, proves to be a powerful favorite for music listeners, having gained thousands of fans within hours of its release on radio and all streaming platforms.

Richards, known for his guitar work touring with pop superstars One Direction, brings his signature pop sound to Carissa Summer Rose’s jamming indie vibe. The song’s production is further elevated by the mixing talents of Grammy Award-nominated mix engineer Mark Needham. Needham is widely known for his work with The Killers, as well as Image Dragons, among others.

Grammy award winning engineer Howie Weinberg mastered “Living in the Moment.” Weinberg has mastered tracks for such legendary artists as Sonic Youth, Public Enemy, Smashing Pumpkins, The Killers, Sinead O’Connor, and Prince to name but a few.

Starpower Management’s Bruce Edwin supervised the song. Bruce Edwin managed David Williams (session guitarist for Prince, Madonna, and Michael Jackson).

Rose describes “Living In the Moment” as an anthem of joy, bliss, and the pursuit of one’s dreams. “This song is really about embracing life and all its possibilities,” Rose said in a statement to Hollywood Sentinel. “I want listeners to feel inspired to chase their dreams and find happiness in the present.”

The young artist states to Hollywood Sentinel that she is currently in pre-production on the song’s music video, scheduled to be shot later this month on the famous beaches of Malibu, California. The coastal setting is expected to complement the track’s uplifting summer vibe.

Rose’s rapid ascent in the music industry is backed by Starpower Management, which represents the artist in all areas of her career. The management company’s support, combined with the involvement of other seasoned industry professionals, signals a strong push behind Rose’s latest release.

In person, Carissa Summer Rose appears to be like what they say in casting in Hollywood, as “the girl next door” when approaching from a distance. Up close however, one can notice a resemblence at certain angles to a young Sharon Stone or other starlet.

Personality wise, Carissa Summer Rose is as sweet, polite, silly, charming, funny, and as down to earth as can be, making anyone feel instantly comfortable with her. There is no diva attitude with her whatsoever; even though she is incredibly talented as a songwriter, with a voice that is just stunningly beautiful to hear.

We had the pleasure to ask Carissa many questions about her new song, and her work and process to creation in general.

Hollywood Sentinel: Can you tell us about the inspiration behind “Living In the Moment?”

Carissa Summer Rose: When I came to Dan with this song idea, I knew I wanted to lean into my “summer-self.” I feel that my creativity is fueled by having time to be present, and to spend time in nature. Summertime always happens to be when I get to do that the most.

Hollywood Sentinel: How was it working with Dan?

Carissa Summer Rose: It was surreal to be able to work with someone so talented and creative. He truly made me feel safe, valued, and inspired.

Hollywood Sentinel: What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learned from collaborating with established industry figures?

Carissa Summer Rose: I think the most valuable lesson that I’ve learned from collaborating with established industry figures is how important it can be to give everyone a chance to show their capabilities off. Your outcome is always better when everyone is bringing their very best to the table.

Hollywood Sentinel: How would you describe your musical style, and how has it evolved since you started your career?

Carissa Summer Rose: I started out as a singer- songwriter who was stuck in a tough moment in my life, and it made me really strong. It brought me to the darkest places, so that I may experience the brightest. That’s where I feel like I’m at now: The really bright and happy future which I manifested years ago during a painful time of my life. I want to inspire others, that with determination, humility, hard work, and patience, things do get better.

Hollywood Sentinel: Who are your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped your artistic vision?

Carissa Summer Rose: When it comes to my musical inspiration, I have a lot of different genres/moods. For this song in particular, a huge inspiration is the Surf Rock genre. Living in Southern California, your summers are typically filled with days at the beach, and surfers are almost always within sight. I wanted to bring that “surf” feel to the song. I also think one of the best parts of summer is that you get to see your favorite bands play outside in the sunshine live. I wanted to capture that “live” feeling.

Hollywood Sentinel: Can you walk us through your creative process when writing and recording a new song?

Carissa Summer Rose: My creative process often changes, depending on the people I’m working with, or if I have ideas already, or have already written a melody and/or lyrics. With this song, I had nothing written when I came in, just a vibe. I came in wearing bright, summery clothes, and dreaming of summer being just around the corner. I showed Dan a bunch of songs I had been listening to on the drive over, and he started playing around on his guitar. He found this riff that I really liked, then we elaborated it. The song evolved from there, as I started writing lyrics and we both bounced a ton of ideas back and forth. We actually got really into the lyrics together, to make sure it wasn’t too cheesy, but still brought that summery, joyful feeling. It evolved fairly quickly and soon enough we were laying down vocals, adding to the production and original guitars, and having FUN!

Hollywood Sentinel: Where do you see yourself and your music five years from now?

Carissa Summer Rose: I see my career expanding into a lot more areas of entertainment. I’m a creative at heart, so I love to express myself in lots of different ways. I see myself as a personality, and am excited to join the world of on-screen acting as well. I’m most excited for touring, collaborations with amazing talents, and connecting with and expanding my audience.

Hollywood Sentinel: What message do you want to convey with “Living In the Moment?”

Carissa Summer Rose: I hope that this song gives people a moment of bliss. I hope it brings gratitude for the moment you are in, and an escape from all the pressures of life which can make you lose track of the present. You can’t control the past, and you can’t live in the future, so why not enjoy The Moment.
