She used to work at Meta. You know, that name FaceBook is actually now called but most nobody likes or uses. But while she was being a tech genius, she was also writing songs and honing a voice that would lead her beyond anything she ever did working for the man. She quit, and dove full time into her passion–music. And we’re glad she did.
That recording artist, named Lyrah, just dropped a new minimalistic techno dream pop banger titled “In the Leaves.” For a freshman release, it’s well worth noticing. The mature, sensual, breathy voice here starkly contrasts Lyrah’s youthful lyrics of confusion and yearning. The tender insecurity of slight quivering in her voice on “In the Leaves” is overpowered by the refined quality of her voice and her remarkably fluent delivery. Her other cuts including “Down Low” are equally pleasing, and combined–all signal to stardom on the horizon.
.Fans of Everything but the Girl, London Grammar, Portishead, Banks, and Lykke Li should appreciate Lyrah.
A future focus on more traditional songwriting structure with strong chorus, pre-chorus, bridge, etc. as was closer done on The Penguin Prison Remix of “Down Low,” along with future collaboration with top producers will help elevate Lyrah to new heights she will readily deserve.
Artist, songwriter, and producer, Lyrah, got her start writing toplines for Axtone Records, the label created by Swedish DJ/Producer Axwell.
“In the Leaves” from her forthcoming EP. The track was co-written by Benji of Slenderbodies. Already released singles from the EP include “Hold Me” and the outstanding cut of “Sorry CVS.” The EP was produced by Jon Wienner of the Roommates (Selena Gomez, Dominic Fike, Demi Lovato).
Of “In the Leaves, Lyrah states, “I wrote this song about a dream I had before I decided to quit my stable, full-time job.” Lyrah further adds, “In the dream, I kept waking up outside. On the sidewalk in San Francisco. In the leaves by a country road. I kept choosing that over my bed, and it felt surprisingly calm when I’d wake up outside of my home. Soon after, I had a session with Benji of Slenderbodies and we talked about this dream and how it seemed to mirror my life circumstances. I could choose to stay in the comfort of a full-time job… or leave and be happier and more satisfied with less.”
“Well, I quit the job and I kept the song,” she adds.
Lyrah’s music has now been featured on “Charmed” among more. She can also be heard on the Holiday87’s (of The Knocks) latest release, “Omen” which is getting major play on the music streamers.
Not fully abandoning her tech roots, when she isn’t writing or performing, Lyrah is also a tech designer for other artists. She also remains a leading voice in the emerging Web3 music space and is a collaborator on projects with one of our favorites–Grimes.
