Siouxsie, Iggy Pop, and Gary Numan Play 2nd Night at Cruel World after early closure last night due to The City of Pasadena
The Cruel World Festival hit LA at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena last night Saturday, May 20th. The unforgettable festival included live performances from legendary and iconic stars of the so-called punk, gothic, and new wave scene from past to present. Over 20 bands played on 3 stages day and night including Iggy Pop; whose legendary Iggy and the Stooges helped define the American punk scene (as did the Ramones and MC5 in America among others), Billy Idol, whose early punk band Generation X helped define the punk scene in the UK (along with the Sex Pistols and others).
The legendary Gang of Four also performed, as well as 80’s new wave legends Animotion, Human League, ABC, Modern English, and one of electronic rocks early pioneers; Gary Numan. Other legends included the stellar Love and Rockets, featuring David J and Daniel Ash from Bauhaus, as well as Kevin Haskins. Also playing, were the great Echo and the Bunnymen, among more.
Pasadena Police reportedly cut Iggy’s mic and told him the show was cancelled after around just 15 minutes into his set, because someone saw a tiny bit of lightning nearby. As a result, headlier Siouxsie was not able to play. Human League’s set was also cut. Despite this bad move from the Pasedena Police Department, the long time, legendary promoters of Goldenvoice delivered, and delivered big, with an amazing lineup and an unforgettable day and night that fans from all over the country and even world will remember for a lifetime.
Even more incredble, Goldenvoice has now booked a 2nd night for the show, brining back Iggy for a complete set, having Siouxsie play for 90 minutes–a half hour longer than formerly planned, and even adding Gary Numan again, who fans already got to see perform a full set last night. They are even giving fans free parking for the night. Needless to say, they did the right thing. Even though the cancellation was not their fault–it was the city of Pasadena’s fault, who owns the Rose Bowl and the connecting land where the festival was held–still, Goldenvoice have gone above and beyond what most promoters would do, treating fans right.
The venue tonight opens at 5pm with the dance club, Gary Numan plays from 6pm until 6:45, Iggy Pop plays from 7pm until 8pm, and Siouxsie performs from 8:20 to 9:50.
