M.I.A.
One of the greatest artists of our time, the beautiful and brilliant M.I.A. is back in action we are thankful to say, from her new film, to new material, and a tour.
Jacob Banks (Interscope Records) has released his new sophomore album. The Nigerian-born Brit introduces Village with lead single “Be Good To Me” ft Seinabo Sey. Produced by xSDTRK (Usher, Jennifer Lopez) and Laleh Pourkarim (Ellie Goulding),
Village is Jacob’s first full-length album, following his self-released The Monologue EP, The Paradox EP, and his Interscope Records debut The Boy Who Cried Freedom. Working alongside renowned producers including Paul Epworth (Adele, James Bay, FKA twigs) and Malay (Frank Ocean, Sam Smith, Lorde), Jacob states, “Village is about celebrating the things that make us who we are, the good, the bad, and the questionable.”
Jacob recently made his U.S. television debut on Late Night with Seth Meyers performing critically-acclaimed single “Unknown (To You),” which has amassed over 12 million views. This summer, Jacob’s track “In the Name of Love” was featured as the theme song for The Equalizer 2 starring Denzel Washington.
Having supported artists including Alicia Keys on tour among others, Jacob has gone on to play sold-out headlining tours and major festivals around the world. Earlier this year, he made his Coachella debut and performed at Sasquatch, BottleRock, and Shaky Knees, Afropunk and North Coast Music Festival, in addition to a series of international dates. Jacob has previously played major festivals such as Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Firefly and The Meadows, among others.
Hollywood Sentinel states, “Jacob Banks is a dynamic, vibrant new artist whose daring and unique songs soar with passion, life, and originality. His sound harkens back to a dark age of smoky blues, slavery and chain gangs, mixed with a perfect twist of modern pop beauty, breakbeat, and a ray of hope. Brilliant work, and a spectacular voice. “Unknown (to You)” below is outstanding.”
Lana Del Rey just dropped a new single and video this week, which is beautifully great, below:
Music Industry
subnormal urges our music industry clients to use Ticketfly, which we have good experience with, rather than a shorter named ticketing company which we have had bad experience with, who spams fans, and requests annoying downloads, among more.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs will be playing September 29th at the Ohana Festival at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, CA. Unfortunately, they will not be headlining, which appears to instead be headed by Eddie Vedder. Johnny Marr will join them on stage, among others.
Ex-Cult will be hitting The Echo on October 9th.
PIG and KVC (Kevorkian Death Cycle) will be playing at Union On October 10th.
GOBLIN’s own Claudio Simonetti will be performing the legendary Dario Argento horror classic ‘Suspuria’ score at Union on November 8th. We hear Ogre from Skinny Puppy (now also on tour) is a big fan.
Grimes
The genius of Grimes, found in literally every one of her songs, is something we can love any day. The fashion world was shocked when she brought her date, billionaire Elon Musk to the Met Ball. We weren’t that surprised. Like Elon, Grimes is out of this world.
Billie Eilish has dropped new material on the music industry and just skyrocketed; justifiably so. Her work is outstanding, and below is one of our favorites.
We don’t get tired of this song which is just a masterpiece by Wolf Alice, and the video just kind of makes you want to fall in love and ride the subway.
Ronnie rocked it with Escape the Fate until he got in some trouble and got replaced in that band. He’s back with Falling in Reverse and killing it better than ever before. With outstanding vocals, excellent songwriting, and a rocking band, we wish him the very best of continued success, and a very special shout out to Epitaph.
Amber Town from Italy jams here with Elektra on vocals. An exciting band we definitely want to hear more of.
Pussy Riot states that, “Our friend, brother, comrade Petr Verzilov is in reanimation. His life is in danger. We think that he was poisoned.” We wish Petr a quick and speedy recovery to good health.
One of our favorites, MØ will be performing at the El Rey next week September 18th. A not to miss show.
